While we wait for the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to meet on Friday to vote on whether to accept another promise made by the Federal Government, and suspend the strike, here's something the Nigerian students can spend quality time on.

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has organised an Essay Competition tagged, "The Effect of Mobile Number Portability on Telecom Services and Usage in Nigeria". There's some cool cash involved. And it's strictly for undergraduates.

Below are the details of the essay competition.

Objectives of the Competition:

·         Increase awareness of the subject matter.
·         Engage and enhance research skills
·         Encourage competition and academic excellence
·         Build capacity of undergraduates

The Methodology:

·         Undergraduates will submit essays not more than 1000 words, and not less than 500 words on the essay topic.
·         First 500 entries representing undergraduates from the institution across the country.
·         Winning essays will be selected based on content, grammar and style.
·         The winning essays will be announced by the First Quarter 2014.
·         All entries must be sent on, or before 16th December 2013.
·         Participants are expected to register with their personal details and a signed authentication as genuine Nigerian undergraduates.

Entries should be sent to; tawusaku@ncc.gov.ng

Further enquiries can be made to the following numbers; 234-9-4617000 ext.7153

Prizes – the best part:

1st Prize:
  • N500,000 cash prize, Branded NCC Laptop and Printer.
 2nd Prize:
  • N300,000 cash prize.
 3rd Prize:
  • N200,000 cash prize.
To register your essay submissions, download the registration form here. You can also check out their facebook page.

If I were you, I would aim at winning all the prizes :). One million naira ain’t too much for an undergrad. So what are you waiting for? Go and write and win the prize(s). Spread the news too.

I am Mr Highzik…and I a learner concerned citizen.
